1. 2D Mockup & Tech Pack Design

The blueprint stage defines the “vibe” versus the “function.”

  • Streetwear: Focuses on oversized fits, dropped shoulders, and specific “hood” or “cuff” shapes.
  • Sports: Focuses on ergonomic paneling and compression zones to allow maximum range of motion.
  • Deliverable: A Tech Pack detailing fabric weight (GSM), Pantone colors, and trim specs (zippers, drawstrings).

2. Fabric Selection & Preparation

The choice of material defines the end-use category.

  • Streetwear Materials: Heavyweight French Terry, 100% Cotton Jersey (250–400 GSM), or luxury nylon.
  • Sports Materials: Moisture-wicking Polyester/Spandex blends, closed-hole mesh, or anti-bacterial treated fabrics.
  • Preparation: Fabrics are “pre-shrunk” to ensure that a Streetwear hoodie doesn’t become a crop top after the first wash.

3. Fabric Cutting

  • Manual/Digital Spreading: Fabric is laid out according to the grain line.
  • Laser Cutting: Preferred for Sports Uniforms to prevent the edges of synthetic fabrics from fraying.
  • Die Cutting: Often used for Streetwear to maintain consistent “boxiness” across high-volume production runs.

4. Decoration (The Visual Identity)

This is where the two styles diverge most significantly:

  • Streetwear Techniques: * Puff Print / Screen Print: For high-density, tactile logos.
    • Appliqué/Chenille: Large fabric patches for a “varsity” look.
    • Garment Dyeing: Dyeing the whole item after it’s sewn for a vintage, faded look.
  • Sports Uniform Techniques: * Full Sublimation: Ink is heat-fused into the fibers so it never fades or peels.
    • Heat Transfer: Lightweight vinyl for player names and numbers to keep the jersey light.

5. Stitching & Construction

  • Streetwear: Uses Twin-needle topstitching for a clean, premium look and Double-stitch hems for durability.
  • Sports: Uses Flatlock or 4-needle 6-thread stitching. This creates a flat seam that doesn’t chafe the athlete’s skin during movement.

6. QA (Quality Assurance)

  • Color Fastness: Ensuring sweat (Sports) or sunlight (Streetwear) doesn’t fade the colors.
  • Pull Test: Checking that logos and numbers won’t peel off under extreme tension.
  • Symmetry Check: Ensuring oversized streetwear items hang evenly on the body.

7. Press & Packing

  • Finishing: Threads are “nipped,” and garments are professionally steamed.
  • Presentation: * Streetwear: Often uses branded frosted zipper bags and thick cardstock hangtags.
    • Sports: Usually bulk-packed or individual polybags with size-visible stickers for team distribution.
